Help us save our Koalas
RedPetal Floral Design is proud to help save Australia's Koalas. WHY !
The Koala is Under Siege
The Koala is one of Australia's most well known and well-loved animals. Since the arrival of Europeans in Australia, approximately 80% of our eucalypt forests, and the Koala's habitat, have been destroyed.
As a result, Koalas have suffered a dramatic decline in numbers and distribution making them a threatened species in New South Wales. Research conducted by The Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) indicates that the Koala is in trouble and that extinctions of local populations have already occurred. In contrast to the millions of koalas which were thought to be present at the time of European settlement, the AKF believes that there could be less than 80,000 remaining today, possibly as few as 43,000. If this rate of decline continues then the koala is at risk of extinction.
The Nature Conservation Trust of NSW (NCT) has a vision to create a network of private landowners protecting native plants and animals on their properties.
The NCT is addressing the issue directly by choosing to expand the amount of private land that formally protects koala habitat under a covenant. This expands the network of available land to ensure the koala's future is assured.
We have a target to create 500 hectares of koala habitat on private land by June 2014.
